Parenting on a budget? Hey, it's 2024. Who isn't?!

This month, we have a series of blog posts to help you save money and stress less while raising your beautiful babies. We've talk about practical changes to make and also explored some ways to save with food. This week, we're talking parties. If you've got a little one's party coming up, here are some ideas to save pennies without killing the mood 🎉

  1. Get your kids to make their own party favours. It’s so much more fun than the bought stuff and both will just end up in the bin or with red cordial spilt on them. My daughter celebrated her 10th birthday last year and we made party favour bags using our Teeny Totes with a small pack of seeds, a handmade hankie, some hair ribbon (upcycled from gifts over the years) and a few lollies.

{Hint for Party Tip #1 - Some ideas for the homemade party favours if your kids are super crafty: fairy wands, spy glasses (with toilet roll holders & cellophane), crowns, cardboard picture frames decorated with glitter, feathers, stickers}.

  2. Make fruit skewers! They're a LOT cheaper than regular party food options, they're healthy and the kids will eat them because they look awesome and taste amazing.

  3. Making your own party decorations is fun and often free. Try egg carton garlands or newspaper or wool pom poms. Origami butterflies also make really beautiful bunting. Not only does this save money, but it's a great way to have some quiet downtime with the kids. Life is crazy busy and it can be easy to rush through from one activity to the next, but crafting (even if it's NOT your forte) is a beautiful way to slow down. And it doesn't have to involve glitter if you don't want it to 😉

  4. Party games: the best things in life are free. Enjoy the local park, a run around the back yard, a walk on the beach. Check out our free and frugal ideas for kids activities in summer, winter and spring.
